Madison Veterans' Housing Site at Lucy D. Anthony Field: On June 14, 2017, at 5:30 PM the Borough of Madison is rededicating the Lucy D. Anthony Field in memory of the men and woman who served during World War II.
Immediately after WWII, the field across from the Lucy D. Anthony school was the site of sixteen former army barracks that were converted to temporary houses for use by returning veterans and their families due to the national housing shortage. Made possible by The Borough of Madison and The State of New Jersey, the emergency housing program ran for five years.
In 2016, The Borough of Madison's Electric Department erected the flagpole to honor all returning veterans and to recognize the generosity of The Borough of Madison and The State of New Jersey. Landscaping was completed by the Department of Public Works.
