Madison Public Library Director:

Position DescriptionAs its next Library Director, the Board of Trustees of the Madison Public Library is looking for a dynamic and engaging candidate who will continue to build on the Library’s strong program of service and maintain its position as the community center for ideas, information, learning and connections.  The Library Director will work strategically with the Board to develop a model program of services that actively supports the sharing of ideas, literacy, leisure and the love of reading, and reflects the interests of the nearly 16,000 Madison residents.  To fulfill the Library’s Mission, the Director will ensure that the library’s print and digital collections are current and customers obtain the reading and informational resources they need.  The Director will play a major role in future capital improvements and fund raising efforts that will enable the Library to continue to provide high-quality service to residents.  The Library’s 2016 operating budget was $1.78 million and has a total staff of 34 dedicated employees.
Responsibilities: The Library Director is responsible for the overall management and direction of the Library including budget, personnel, facility, programs and services, and planning, and reports only to the Board of Trustees of the Library.  The Library Director supervises and evaluates the work of the library staff,provides professional technical advice and counsel to the Library Board,prepares and monitors the Library’s annual operations and capital budget, proposes and implements personnel and operating policies under the Board’s direction,supports the fundraising efforts of the Friends of the Library and the Madison Public Library, Inc., and networks and builds partnerships with local groups and organizations in order to foster relationships that benefit both the Library and the community.   On the county level, the Director collaborates with other libraries and plays an integral role in the decisions and direction of the Morris Automated Information Network (MAIN).
The Madison CommunityMadison is a beautiful and historic town with a thriving downtown central business district.  The borough is well known for its highly educated population as well as its devotion to the arts.  Home to 2 colleges and located just 30 miles from the heart of New York City, the Borough of Madison offers residents both small-town appeal and easy access to the entertainment and culture offerings of a major city. 
Qualifications: An ALA-accredited Master’s Degree, a New Jersey librarian certificate issued by Thomas Edison State University (or eligibility for acquiring a certificate), and a minimum of seven (7) years of satisfactory library experience with at least three (3) years as a Director or Assistant Director. In addition to fulfilling the major responsibilities and qualifications of this position, the successful candidate will also possess the ability to read, write, speak and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position; have hands-on knowledge of current and new technologies affecting today’s public libraries; and demonstrate a strong commitment to securing the role of the library as the primary cultural, intellectual, and social heart of Madison.​
Other Important Information:  Finalists for the position will be asked to provide three (3) quality job references that must include a former board member or supervisor.  New Jersey residency is required within one year of the date of hire.  Successful completion of a criminal background check is also required.
CompensationThe salary range for this position is $93,000 to $110,000.  Placement within the range is dependent on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.  There is an excellent benefits package, including family health benefits and membership in the New Jersey Public Employee Retirement System.

School Crossing Guards:

The Borough of Madison is now accepting applications for the position of School Crossing Guard. The position is a part-time position (approximately 10 hours/week) with a salary range of $16.31-$18.31 per hour. No benefits.
