Whooping Cough on Rise- Protect Family Members
Whooping cough on the rise – infants at risk
A four-fold increase in the number of cases of whooping cough has been seen in California. Five infants under three months old have died in what is now considered an epidemic. The Madison Health Department urges parents, family members, nannies and other caregivers of infants to get a booster shot. If the people around an unimmunized or incompletely immunized infant are protected, that protection will cocoon the infant and reduce the risk. Take advantage of the free vaccine available this summer against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough).
Call the Madison Health Department at 973-593-3079 x9 for more information on the “Tdap” and other available free vaccines.
