Adult Health and Men's Cancer Screening
Adult Health and Men’s Cancer Screening
Two important health screening events are offered to Madison, Chatham Borough and Chatham Township adults on Saturday, December 1 and Monday, December 3. Both men and women are encouraged to check their heart health at the Adult Health Screening on the first of December starting at 8 a.m. The screening includes the CMP (comprehensive metabolic profile blood analysis), blood pressure checks, information on cholesterol and diet, fitness and preventing osteoporosis. The CMP analysis includes total cholesterol, HDL and LDL cholesterol, CBC and other blood components. Registration is required.
Adult men are encouraged to register now for the men’s cancer screening on December 3 starting at 6:00 p.m. Dr. Darren Blumberg will perform testicular, prostate, and colorectal examinations for the men’s screening. Men aged 15-35 are at risk of developing testicular cancer, whereas prostate cancer is more common in men over 55. Colorectal cancer is most frequently found in men over the age of 40. Yearly check-ups are recommended for all men.
Registrations may be made by calling 973-593-3079 ext. 1 on weekdays. Madison residents are charged a non-refundable fee of $25.00 for the CMP blood test payable within the registration period. There is no charge for the men’s cancer screening.
All adults are advised to know their cholesterol numbers. An estimated 60% of the population in the U.S is now classified as obese or overweight often resulting in dangerously elevated cholesterol levels. A cholesterol reading of under 200ml/dl is recommended, but the levels of HDL and LDL, components of cholesterol, are also of major importance for good heart health. Dietary fats, fiber, and exercise can all affect cholesterol levels. Information on lowering cholesterol levels will be available at the screening.
The screenings are offered by the Madison Health Department in their offices at the Madison Civic Center, 28 Walnut Street with parking behind the building. Entrance is through the glass doors on the side of the building and down the stairs to the offices on the right.
All residents of Madison, Chatham Borough and Chatham Township may participate annually in either screening. Participants should have their physician’s name, address and telephone number ready when they call.
