Procedures for Waverly Trestle Banner for the Borough of Madison

Thank you for your interest in hanging a banner on the Waverly Trestle in downtown Madison.

Here are the steps.  Please know we are here to help!

Step 1

The first step is to verify that the space is available.  Please contact Jim Burnet at 973-593-8496 or at burnetj@rosenet.org to discuss.  You should give at least two months lead time in order to secure approvals and process the application.  Trestle banners hang for two weeks and usually go up and are taken down on Mondays.

Step 2

Once space is confirmed, please provide us with a cover letter (or email) with the following information…

a)      Dates you would like the banner hung (the banner can be hung for a maximum of two weeks and is usually suspended/removed on a Sunday).

b)      Short explanation of the organization and the event that is being promoted.

c)      A full color, graphic design layout of the banner.  Please see banner specs below for more information.

Note that only non-commercial banners promoting community events and non-profit organizations are permitted.  No logos, brands, business names or political messages are allowed on the banner.

The banner must be delivered to the Department of Public Works facility on John Street at least 5 days prior to being hung.

Banner Specs
Material & Construction: Nylon filament core material, 18m in thickness.  ¼” Nylon webbing will be stitched into the banner on all four sides. Rope does not need to be supplied.  Grommets or D rings must be in place on all four corners.

Banner Size & text:  4’ wide with a maximum of 3 lines of text.  Banner can be 15’ to 20’ long.

Lettering Size & Text:  8” minimum and must be a very clear, readable font.  A maximum of 12 words and a date on the banner.

Note, the banner is hung for free compliments of the Madison Department of Public Works.
