INFORMATION ABOUT TAX BILLS AND TAX PAYMENTS:

Tax bills are mailed once a year.  The bill is for 4 quarters, i.e. 3rd and 4th of the current year and 1st and 2nd of the next year.

Taxes are due February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1.  There is a 10 day grace period, unless otherwise indicated on the tax bill.  Please note that we have to receive the payment by the 10th day.  New Jersey Statutes do not allow us to accept postmark.  Therefore, give plenty of time when mailing your payment.  If you are paying your taxes online, the payment must be made by the  end of the business day on the last day of the grace period or interest will be charged.

Tax Payments should be made payable to the “Borough of Madison” and mailed to the Tax Collector’s attention.  If you wish to put information on your check, the Block and Lot numbers will refer to the property you are paying the taxes for.

You may pay your tax bill by mail.  Enclose the entire bill and payment with a stamped, self-addressed envelope for return of receipted bill.  Enclose the tax bill stub with the payment if you do not require a receipt.  If you pay in person and would like a receipt, bring in the entire bill to be stamped paid on the back.  Otherwise the tax bill stub with the payment is sufficient.

DEDUCTIONS AND OTHER TAX RELIEF:

An application for a Veteran or Senior Citizens (or Disabled Person) Deduction is available from the Tax Collector or the Tax Assessor.  Please call for additional information on Tax Relief offered by the State of New Jersey.

P.S.:

Any questions concerning ownership changes or assessment, please contact the Tax Assessor at 973-593-3042 ext 3066 or 3067.
