Presbyterian Church/Merchant Lot Trees

Presbyterian Church - Merchant Parking Lot (2007)

In January, 2007 the Presbyterian Church of Madison, located at 19 Green Avenue, requested support from the Friends of Madison Shade Trees in re-landscaping a strip of land between the church and a borough parking lot which had been planted earlier by FMST.  By March 2007 FMST awarded $2000 to Woodland Tree & Landscape Co. for the planting of shade trees on this site.

Madison’s Department of Public Works removed overgrown bushes which were infested with poison ivy. With the approval of Madison’s Shade Tree Management Board and at the request of church elders, Woodland, in July, 2007 planted three Kwanzan Cherry trees and three Chinese Laceback Elm trees. Additional soil was added, existing soil was remediated and the entire strip was mulched. This project was part of a more extensive church renewal and helped keep it one of Madison’s historic sites.
