Water Meter Upgrades
In an effort to provide you with improved water service and accurate billing, The Borough of Madison Water Department is upgrading its meter reading system. The upgrade will include the installation of new reading equipment and water meter.
Currently, new equipment and meters are being installed in a small area of town which includes the Madison Commons. If you are within our trial area, you will receive direct notification from us.
The installation should take less than one hour and requires access to your basement or utility room. We have currently contracted with MeterTek Utility Services Inc. to perform the work. Work within the Madison Commons is scheduled to take place between August 2 and August 20. Your safety will be top priority for MeterTek Utility Services Inc. If you or anyone in your household is sick on the date of your install, we ask that you please call and re-schedule. In addition, all MeterTek Utility Services Inc. personnel must pass a daily health screening prior to reporting to work and will wear face coverings when entering your home for the install.
Customers will be able to identify MeterTek Utility Services Inc. personnel by their uniforms, photo ID badges and company marked vehicles. Do not let anyone in your home without proper identification.

Why are you replacing reading equipment and water meters?
In an effort to provide our residents with improved water service and accurate billing, we are beginning the process of upgrading our meter reading system. This will include the installation of new reading equipment and water meters for all of our customers over the next few years, replacing aging equipment with modern and reliable equipment.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Residents can easily schedule their equipment and meter upgrade by contacting MeterTek Utility Services Inc. at 1-800-717-0974 or visiting their website at www.metertek.net. Once you have selected a date and time frame, a representative from MeterTek will contact you to confirm your appointment.
I’m not home during the day. What do I do?
The Borough of Madison along with MeterTek will work with any residents who may not be home during the day and/or are on vacation during a prolonged period of install. Evening and weekend appointments will be available on a case-by-case basis. For safety and security, MeterTek personnel will not enter a home without a resident over the age of 18 present.
Do I have to let MeterTek personnel into my residence/business?
Yes! Under Borough Code and New Jersey utility regulations, utilities must be permitted reasonable access to customer premises for the purpose of rendering service, including the replacement of meters and reading equipment. How can I identify MeterTek personnel?
All MeterTek personnel will arrive at your residence within your schedule appointment time driving a company-marked vehicle (seen above), be wearing company uniforms and will present to you their company issued photo ID badge.
My meter works perfectly fine, please don’t replace it
Although your equipment may seem to be working fine, all meters within the Borough of Madison are being upgraded over the next several years to improve our water service and accurate billing for all residents. These new meters will help our meter readers get accurate readings, while also providing data on a potential water leak within your residence.
Do I still need to make an appointment if I had my meter replaced in the last five years?
Yes! We are installing new communication modules on all meters. As such, we still need to enter properties with newer meters to perform the work.
My appointment is coming up but I am sick. What do I do?

I want my meter installed but I don’t live within the trial area.
We are pleased to see that you are interested in getting your equipment upgraded. At this time, we are performing a trial install only within a select area of town. At the conclusion of this trial, we will begin working our way throughout town. Stay tuned to direct correspondence informing you that we are beginning installs within your area.
