Building & Construction Department

About the Department

The Madison Building Department covers both Madison and Chatham Borough. The mission of the Building Department is to assure the health and safety of the people who live, work and otherwise make use of all structures by the consistent and thorough enforcement of the Uniform Construction Code, as adopted by, the State of New Jersey.

Upon submission of a completed application (including any prior approvals), the Building Department has 20 business days to prepare your permit. The details of your project are first entered into our system and then it begins the review process where the subcode officials review plans and provide approval with the final sign off by the Construction Official. The last step includes the permit number being issued and the cost calculated. The responsible party will be notified by telephone which will include the total cost for the permit(s). Please make note, for both Madison and Chatham Borough our form of payments are cash or a check made payable to: Borough of Madison.

The Construction and Building Department for Chatham Township is located at 58 Meyersville Road, Chatham, NJ 07928
